Stader Geest
Livestock and arable farming

Livestock
Because the poor soils hardly allowed profitable cultivation, livestock farming has always been very important in our region. The same is true of our Hof Meyer, where milk production and rearing young stock are still the focus of our farming today. We produce fresh, healthy milk in modern milking parlours. Bull fattening rounds off our livestock farming. And because we love animals, ponies, chickens, dogs and cats enrich life on the farm.

Arable farming
Arable farming here on the Stader Geest has always been – and still is – subject to constant change. Fields that used to be small, and which we ploughed with horse and cart until 1956, have grown into more economical plot sizes through land improvement, land swaps and farms giving up. Cash crops gave way to forage crops.
Today, three crops shape the fields of the Meyer dairy farm in Oldendorf: grass, cereals and maize. Contractors make sure the large fields are worked quickly and efficiently with modern machinery.
