Farm and history

View of our farm in Oldendorf from the street “Auf der Kuhlen”

Our dairy farm is located in Oldendorf, originally a “Haufendorf” (a clustered village) on the varied landscape of the Stader Geest. For 300 years and more than 10 generations, the farm has been owned by our family and passed down from one generation to the next – loosely following Goethe: “What you have inherited from your fathers, earn it in order to possess it.” Three generations currently live here under one roof.

The oldest street in the village, “Auf der Kuhlen”, leads straight to us into Oldendorf’s old village centre, which is shaped by full and half farmsteads (“Voll-” and “Halbhöfe”). History books record that the first farmers settled along the village brook that once ran here, the “Beek”, which had its source at the high-lying “Kuhle”. Back then our ancestors called themselves “Vollhöfner” or “Halbhöfner” (full or half farmstead holders) or “Kötner” (cottagers). To protect themselves from storms and thunderstorms, they planted oaks and ash trees, which still shape the look of our farm so impressively today.

What you have inherited from your fathers, earn it in order to possess it.
